To galvanize resistance and combat this oppression of creativity, artists gather in secret to tell each other stories. AND YET, WE SHINE features original song, storytelling and dance. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy free theatre in the park!

Have you always wanted to write and perform your own work? Here's an opportunity to develop your one-person play, story, or comic monologue, and see it performed in a low pressure setting by you or an actor. Writers of all levels and backgrounds welcome. In this workshop, we'll explore the art of crafting the one person performance through writing exercises, experimentation, discussion of craft, and feedback. We'll also learn from examples of work by writers who excel in this form. Over three sessions, develop a concept you already have, or germinate a new idea. The fourth and final session of the workshop will consist of an informal performance for participants and their invited guests at a local bar or restaurant.

Tremont's Arts in August is officially here!
The mission of Arts in August is to expose the people of Tremont, Greater Cleveland, and Cuyahoga County to the beauty and positive influence of the arts. Furthermore, it is their solid purpose to provide this exposure free of cost! Arts in August is a unique performance series. The three presenters include three nonprofits and a City Councilman; a true collaboration of unique partners. The three partnering presenters aim to specialize in building community in both the social and physical realms. Tremont West, LAND Studio, Cleveland Public Theatre and Councilman Kerry McCormack hold values in community and know the value in bringing the community together. What better way is there to bring a community together but around the arts!

Located at Lincoln Park, located at W. 14th and Starkweather in the heart of Tremont, is the perfect venue for this signature outdoor performance series.

With nine different performances/celebrations there is something for everyone in the family!

Make Shakespeare come alive in your class room. Teachers can take this workshop to discover easy, interactive, and fun ways to introduce theirs students to the Bard. OSF will provide you with the lessons, games, and interactive workshops that we use to engage our own students--plus, you'll walk out with study guides and other materials for some of Shakespeare's most studied scripts. Don't make your kids read Shakespeare...let them experience it! The materials covered in the course are suitable for grades 6 and beyond.

The extra $25 fee above our normal $100 registration fee is for printed materials. If you would rather not receive full color study guides and lesson plans, you may use code NOPRINT to avoid the fee.

Exploring Haiku w/ Joshua Gage

For many, the term “haiku” is understood to be a seventeen-syllable nature poem; however, over twenty-five years of scholarship and writing has challenged and expanded that understanding to create a rich literary tradition in English poetry. This workshop will teach participants the current understanding of haiku in English then walk them through a series of exercises to help them create their own haiku. We will then workshop our creations and discuss possible avenues to publish and share our haiku.

I'm Too Sexy for This Scene: Writing Better Sex

If you think writing sex scenes is hard (no pun!), then this is the workshop for you. In this single-session workshop, we'll read some laughably bad sex scenes, consider what makes a sex scene successful rather than cringe-inducing, discuss how sex scenes can impact character and plot development, and complete a sex-tacular writing prompt. Both fiction and nonfiction writers are welcome, as is writing that depicts a diverse range of sexualities and perspectives.

You will hear about elder populations and the demographics of aging with special insights from Dr. Richard L. Jones and Denise Rucker-Burton about Cuyahoga County programs and services through the lens of the 21st Century Wellness Model. You will learn from Chiquita Mullins Lee about the Ohio Arts Council’s new Creative Aging Learning Initiative, a first in Ohio, with funding and professional development to support hands-on arts experiences to engage and connect senior adults with the communities around them—and you will sample projects from OAC’s 2017 Creative Aging Learning Cohort. Linda Zolten Wood, director of The Collinwood Painted Rain Barrel Project, will supply materials & support to make your huge hunk of plastic rain barrel ornamental, in a workshop at Cavotta’s Garden Center.
(sander & primer is self-serve, as well as painting - we'll offer guidance and you paint your masterpiece).

Bring your own barrel & $50 (cash or credit card only); the class provides tent, tables, sanders, exterior primer and paints, and will send you home with clear-coating. Scholarships are available for those able to volunteer.

Bring a pot-luck dish to share while your prep dries; also bring plastic sheeting to protect tables and your car in transport & DRESS MESSY - kids are welcome, must be supervised by an adult.
Must have 8 registered to run workshop (limit 15).

The annual wine tasting fundraiser is almost here! Go taste a variety of wines and tasty hors d'oeuvres while bidding on items in our silent auction or raffle. Some of the wineries that will be represented are Debonne, Lakehouse Inn, Grand River, Spring Hill, South River and others. Their famous wine slushies will also be available. Themed dress is encouraged (but not required). Will you go as a flyer from the future? Or someone from the past who's ahead of their time?

Tickets are $65 nonmembers, $60 members (both of which include a collectible wine glass) and $40 designated drivers. All tickets include food. This is the perfect way to start the holiday weekend, support the museum and get ready for the big Cleveland National Air Show.
