Zygote is currently accepting applications for two Curatorial / group Exhibitions for 2021, one in winter and one in spring. Qualified curators or artists should be established professionals in the U.S. or abroad.
Criteria: The show must contain an element of print in it.
Exhibitions: Winter (Jan. – Feb. 2021) / Spring (May 2021)
Artist Talk: in the gallery at the opening reception
Curatorial Proposal: $300 stipend (*for the show to qualify as curated, the curator cannot display their own artwork in the exhibition and the curator must coordinate the installation and logistics of the exhibition with the Gallery Director and participating artists)
Artist (Group) Proposal: no stipend / works can be included in the show / the artist must coordinate the installation and logistics of the exhibition with the Gallery Director.
We expect a hands-on approach and clear, direct communication with Zygote’s Gallery Director. The Curator/Artist is expected to be in Cleveland for and participate in the installation and opening of the exhibition. The Curator/Artist is expected to be at the gallery throughout the installation and provide all exhibiting artists’ contact info to Gallery Director. The Curator/Artist should clarify to all artists participating that they are responsible for delivering their work to the gallery, installing and de-installing their work. Zygote provides curators with a small stipend if they are not participating in the show as an artist.

Zygote does not have a full time staff of preparators. Zygote gallery staff cannot install work requiring a lift or special mounting instructions. Our gallery staff may also assist artists with installation of other complicated projects but will not be involved in helping the artist to build their work on site. Our technical staff will install all of the equipment (projectors, monitors etc.) belonging to Zygote. Any specialized equipment must be supplied by the Curator /Artist.

Specifics about the installation of artwork and about the equipment that Zygote owns and can provide will be discussed after the initial proposal has been reviewed.

Each exhibiting artist must fill out a consignment agreement prior to the exhibition’s installation. Zygote retains 40% of any sales. Sold work will be paid to the artist no less than 30 days after the closing of the exhibition.
