Nonprofits play a key role in democracy building through voter engagement efforts, ensuring the people they serve are registered to vote and educated on the issues and races on the ballot. But nonprofit staff, leaders, and board members don't need to sit on the sidelines of governance. Individuals working with nonprofits can and should consider running for office.

On January 31st Nonprofit VOTE is bringing in speakers from Vote Run Lead and Run for Office for a webinar focused on how to pipeline leaders of the nonprofit sector who are ready to run for office. They'll explain how the campaign process should go for 501c3 workers as well as what nonpartisan programs are available to assist and develop emerging candidates and propel them to success.

In this six week class students, ages 13-17, learn the do's and don't of auditioning as well as the art of scene study. Students will begin the first week with a prepared monologue. From there they will learn how to command the room's attention, and create an environment.

Students will learn how to break a scene down to get to the heart of each scene. They will also learn how to create the emotional arc that is needed to bring a fully fleshed out character to life. Final scenes are taped each and emailed to each student so that they can see what progress has been made.

This Class is limited to 10 students per 6 week session to allow for the time and attention required.

OPA's classes are taught by industry professionals with credits from films, national commercials, network television, and thorough training from Los Angeles. Enrollment is open for the following classes:

Film Intensive III Tuesdays 7:30-8:30 (ages 18+) - This class will use current scripts from film and television. We will cover script analyzing, how to breakdown the script and deliver the performance the director envisions. We will also cover how to market yourself so that you are desirable to CD's and agents, and how to launch your career here in the local film scene while using techniques from Los Angeles. *9-week session extending from January 21 through March 23*

Meisner 1- Wednesday 7:00-8:30 (Ages 18+) - The Meisner Method is about finding the truth in your work, leaving “acting” behind in favor of reacting, truly listening to your scene partner and acting from your heart, not your script. We’ll start with objective repetition, work into a more subjective repetition, then raise the stakes with a knock at the door. You’ll learn the reality of doing, not pretending, so that you can produce emotion any time you need it. *9-week session extending from January 21 through March 23*

Grantwriting for Artists: Five-Part Workshop Series, with Tracie Holder

This workshop, led by filmmaker Tracie Holder, is open to artists working across all disciplines. Over five weeks, you will gain confidence in your fundraising and proposal writing abilities by providing a solid road map to begin the process. We’ll review the specific components of a proposal, how to convey ideas visually and strike a balance between the big, broad brushstroke ideas and small details that make your project come alive on the page. We’ll also cover the most common mistakes made when writing grant fundraising proposals and how to avoid them. A central goal of the workshop is to gain an understanding of how to incorporate fundraising and proposal writing into your artistic practice so that it becomes an organic step in moving your current and future projects forward.

This 5-week workshop will be hands-on and is for artists who have a project in development and are ready to start the grant application process. The class will meet for three 2-hour sessions with Tracie in the Creative Capital office and in-between these sessions, participants will meet in groups to share their work and provide feedback to one another. There will also be time for a one-on-one meeting with Tracie to review your writing. A full schedule is available below.

By the end of the workshop, you should come away with a comprehensive framework for proposal writing as well as an initial draft proposal and a sense of confidence and direction to move forward.

Program Development: Teaching Artist Preparation

This first module is intended for working professional artists in all disciplines who are new to working as a teaching artist and current teaching artists who would like to enhance or improve their knowledge and skills. This session is recommended for anyone interested in joining the teaching artist roster of the Center for Arts-Inspired Learning.

Participants who successfully complete the session and program plan will be awarded a digital badge representing their knowledge and competency in arts-integrated program development.

A digital badge provides evidence of achievement as a result of participation and specific accomplishments completed during and after the session. Digital badges may be included in an online portfolio and/or other micro-credentialing sites, such as Mozilla Backpack.
