A Reimagined Classic. A one-act satire about an imaginary Southern town where all the black people have suddenly disappeared. The only ones left are sick and lying in hospital beds, refusing to get well. The Mayor sends a national plea for the blacks, “wherever they are,” to come back. In the end the blacks begin to reappear, as mysteriously as they had vanished, and the white community, sobered by what has transpired, breathes a sigh of relief at the return of the rather uneasy status quo. Social Justice Series. Performed as a "reverse minstrel show", actors are wearing whiteface to add additional texture to the plot.

Playwrights Local 4181

Playwrights Local presents the world premiere of two one-act plays by Cleveland authors. “Above and Beyond” is written by Faye Sholiton and directed by Craig Joseph. Set in 1973, this drama concerns two Air Force pilots who report to their launch center in a state of alert. They could be called upon to destroy a distant city, then live with the results. “The Silence of Dr & Mrs Caligari” is a theatrical reimagining of the showman and “somnambulist” from Robert Wiene’s classic film of 1920. This formally expressive work meditates on music, language, and human nature...all with a certain cruel humor.
