ABOUT THE INTENSIVE: Each summer The Movement Projects host a one week intensive geared for serious-minded dancers (12-18 yrs) interested in furthering themselves as creative artists and who wish to deepen and grow their technical and performance knowledge. This intensive provides a rigorous daily schedule in professional training, creative practice and rehearsals taught by TMP artistic directors, company members, as well as notable guest artists in the dance community. The program will focus on modern dance technique, contemporary, ballet, improvisation, composition, injury prevention and somatic practices. In addition to movement courses, the program includes courses designed to prepare young artists for a career in dance, such as, resume building, dance on film and marketing. As part of the marketing course, each artist will receive dance action shots for their portfolio.

This workshop is appropriate for writers with some experience writing poetry or who may be working towards completing a collection. Workshop time will concentrate on studying and supporting the poetry of participants and becoming attuned to how their poems come together, both in sequences or manuscripts and in terms of how they resound within trends in contemporary poetry. In addition to close reading of poems, we'll respond to in-class prompts, practice reading aloud, and look at literary periodicals with an eye toward submitting our work.

Thiz Girlz Lyfe

“Thiz Girlz Lyfe” tells the story of Nasheema Morgan, an exotic dancer in present-day Cleveland, Ohio. Nasheema appears to have everything she needs: a house, a handsome man, and a loving daughter. But beneath that facade, things are spiraling out of control. Nasheema’s husband expresses his anger with violence and belittling. The party scene that she turns to puts her daughter at greater risk. Nasheema can only deal with so much before she must find a way out. Co-presented by Playwrights Local, Cleveland’s only theater devoted to locally written works, and Powerful Long Ladder Ensemble, a new company headed by Terrence Spivey, former Artistic Director of Karamu House.

The cast of “Thiz Girlz Lyfe” features Lorraina Worthern and Martin Rawls IV and includes Samone Cummings, Sean Dubois Day, Rochelle Jones, Irma R. McQueen, Shante Smith, and Nyrie Stallworth. Design for the production is by Harold Crawford (costumes), Marcus Dana (lights), Beau Reinker (sound), Prophet Seay (set), and Lisa L. Wiley (props). The staff includes stage manager Geraldine Harris, board operator Calvin Lane, and carpenter Tom Hayes.

This class is well-suited for writers who have basic familiarity with the art of writing nonfiction, are engaged in writing personal essays or memoir, and desire feedback on their ongoing projects. Readings each week will expand writers’ exposure to the broad field of personal essay and memoir with an emphasis on structure, voice, integrating research, and other aspects of artful nonfiction storytelling. Each class will consist of weekly reading discussions, in-class writing exercises, craft talks, and guided workshop by peers.

Painted Rain Barrel Workshop

The Friends of Euclid Creek, in partnership with the Collinwood Rain Barrel Project and the City of Beachwood are sponsoring a Rain Barrel Painting workshop June 1st and 2nd for adults and families. (Families are encouraged to register but there will only be one barrel per family.)

Cost is $60.00 for a rain barrel,downspout kit, and supplies needed to paint the barrel.

To keep it fun there will be food and live music at the Beachwood Service Center. Please hurry and sign-up below.
