Gazing into the Looking Glass: An Exploration into Speculative Fiction

Literary Cleveland
Jun 01, 2022 - Jul 06, 2022 6-8 p.m. | Zoom | Hone Your Craft
What is speculative fiction? What is this genre’s rules, structure, and tropes? Together, we will journey into the unknown, beginning our adventure exploring early speculative works from the 1960’s and time travel to the present. We will also generate speculative work of our own by participating in weekly writing prompts and sharing our works-in-progress. A combination of close reading, class discussion, and generative workshop, this class will empower us to gaze into the looking glass of inspiration to discover what moves us. We will then learn how to use that inspiration to inform our work.‍

This class takes place remotely online via Zoom. Register to receive the Zoom link.

Inlet's Summer Dance Intensive 2022

Inlet Dance Theatre
Jun 29, 2022 - Jul 30, 2022 9:00 AM- 4:00 PM | Pivot Center for Art, Dance & Expression | Hone Your Craft
June 29th, 2022 – July 30th, 2022

Inlet’s annual Summer Dance Intensive (SDI) is perhaps the best example of the company’s mission of “using dance to further people.” The goal of Inlet’s Summer Dance Intensive is to provide students (ages 16+) with a short-term experience of being in a professional company. Typically, students from international & regional locations join local talent to create a diverse ensemble, of various races, skill sets, and socioeconomic backgrounds. In addition to receiving professional training in dance techniques and performance, students also discover personal growth, character development, embodied trust, respect, empathy, self-discipline and confidence.

Inlet’s SDI will culminate in participants performing on stage alongside the company and the dancers in Inlet’s Trainee & Apprentice Program in two performances for the community at Cain Park Evans Amphitheater in Cleveland Heights, Ohio (July 29 & 30).

SDI is being held at Inlet’s new home at the Pivot Center for Art, Dance & Expression located at 2937 W 25th St, Cleveland, OH 44113. With easy access to the highway and over 2,800 square footage of studio space, it’s an ideal, safe, and convenient location with FREE on-site parking.

Friday, July 29th at 1:00pm – FREE Culminating Summer Performance for families in our community at the Cain Park Evans Amphitheater

Inlet Dance Theatre is one of the region’s most exciting professional contemporary dance companies. Founded in 2001 by Executive/Artistic Director Bill Wade, Inlet embodies his belief that dance viewing, training, and performing experiences may serve as tools to bring about personal growth and development. In 21 years, Inlet transformed from a small dance company with a local impact into an organization that reaches people on an international level.

Inlet’s ensemble-based culture intentionally focuses on craftsmanship and mastery while employing a collaborative creative process in the development of new work. Each piece in Inlet’s repertory is the direct result of the diverse artists in the studio at the time the work was created.

All of Inlet’s repertory speaks creatively about human life issues and does so in a life-giving manner. The company presents a wide aesthetic range of works that speak to what could be, rather than only what is.

Our Kids Matinee features dancers from Inlet’s Summer Dance Intensive, company members, and members of Inlet’s Trainee & Apprentice Program, performing family-friendly dances and showcasing our education process with interactive audience moments!
