Northeast Shores is the community development organization serving North Collinwood, one of the strongest artist communities in the country. The community includes Waterloo Arts, an organization that creates a stimulating arts environment through quality exhibits, performances, special events and educational programming for people of all ages. Collinwood also has an Entertainment District which is home to an eclectic mix of indie music venues and art galleries. It is the perfect place for artists young and old to launch their career or expand their practice.
North Collinwood has a mix of artists in the craft (7.5%), design (7.5%), interdisciplinary (7.5%), literary (5.7%), music (5.7%) and theater arts (7.5%) – all between five and eight percent of the total. Visual artists are also well represented,, accounting for 55 % of artists in the neighborhood.

Ohio City—or the “City of Ohio” as it was known at its 1818 founding—was originally a part of Brooklyn Township. On March 3, 1836, just two days before Cleveland’s incorporation, the City of Ohio became an independent municipality. It remained so until June 5, 1854, when it was annexed to the city of Cleveland.

Today OBCDC serves both of the neighborhoods and City of Cleveland Statistical Planning areas of Brooklyn Centre and Old Brooklyn. However, starting in January 2010, the ward boundaries and numbers have changed. The CDC is represented by four Council Wards. Most of all of Ward 13 covered by Councilman Kelley is the Old Brooklyn area. Parts of the following wards also fall in OBCDC’s service area: Ward 3, Councilman Cimperman; Ward 12, Councilman Brancatelli; and Ward 14, Councilman Cummins. However it is expected that this year (2012) the ward boundaries may change again.

One of the main benefits of living in Severance is the Severance Town Center. The Town Center is home to many retailers of office supplies, clothing and household goods, women’s fashions, and more. You will find a 14-screen movie theater complex with the latest in video and audio technology. There is also a premier fitness club which features state-of-the-art equipment. A convenience wing on the west side of the Town Center offers a full-service grocery store, clothing outlets, a shoe store, health food, a dental center, a hair salon, other various merchandisers and a sandwich shop.
According to the 2011 “Putting Artists on the Map”, 43 % of the artists in the area are visual artists. There is a large number of musicians living in the Severance neighborhood at 15.7 % followed by those involved in craft (10.7%), interdisciplinary (8.3%), literary (7.4%), dance (5%) and theater (2.5%) disciplines.

South Shaker is within minutes of the grand theaters of Playhouse Square, Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Great Lakes Science Center, Cleveland Botanical Garden, Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, Case Western University and Severance Hall, home of the Cleveland Orchestra. Cleveland and surrounding areas also have thousands of acres of parks including the Shaker Lakes and Emerald Necklace.
